GRILLED SARDINES

Since ancient times fish has been the eating base of the local communities of the Algarve, and it became worldwide famous for its quality and freshness. Sardines are without a doubt the most sought-after fish, and the most appreciated all over the country. This dish is the essence of every summer lunch in the Algarve.

FRESH SEAFOOD

Another vital element of the Algarve cuisine. Caught just a few hours away from the coast, the local seafood is recognized for its unique flavours and looks, which has earned it the title of best in the world. There’s a widespread variety of typical seafood from Algarve like clams, mussels, crabs, shrimps and a unique species named percebes.

RAZOR CLAM RICE

As perfect example of the importance of the Ria Formosa and fishing-related activities, we have the famous arroz de lingueirão, or razor clam rice. This bivalve, easily captured and plentiful in the region, has become highly appreciated in Portugal. Nowadays, this traditionally Algarvian dish is considered one of the best ways to enjoy this unique seafood.

FRIED BABY SQUIDS ALGARVE STYLE

Tradition and sea translated into taste. The Algarvian fried baby squids, a simple and light dish, but of intense aroma and flavour, that makes your mouth water. Although it’s only fried squids with plenty of garlic, salt, pepper, and olive oil, this is one of the most famous traditional dishes that one cannot miss.

ALMOND, CAROB AND FIG CAKE

We couldn’t leave out the pastry and regional sweets which you’ll hardly find anywhere else in the country. This is the case of this Almond, Carob and Fig Cake, also known as 3 Delight Tart or Algarvian Trilogy, that combines three typical products of the region – fig, carob and almond. Praised for its taste and mastery in production, you won’t ever taste anything like it.
