The Açoteia – Faro Rooftop Festival, organized by the Municipality of Faro, returned to the city on July 7 and 8 after its first edition in 2019. For two days it was possible to visit a set of rooftops in the city that, usually, are not accessible to the public, thus allowing a look at the city of Faro from another perspective. An innovative festival focused on something as traditional as the ‘açoteia’ and based on three main axes – culture, sustainability and community – which we couldn’t fail to be a part of.
And our 3HB Faro was proudly one of the venues taking part in the event, having opened its Rooftop – usually reserved exclusively for hotel guests – to the entire community for two remarkable concerts.
Since the hotel opening in 2021, the concept of ‘Açoteia’ has been closely associated with our rooftop and is even the name of the snacks menu that our guests have access to in this space:
From the Arabic as-sotaihâ, terrace. In the ancient Algarve living, ‘açoteias’ – a terrace that replaces the roof of the houses – were a very important element, with various uses – as a place of leisure, but also as an area for storing water or drying fruits and other foods. On July 7, our rooftop was full to hear Milhanas and his fado soul, side by side with Tatanka’s unmistakable charisma and voice. On the 8th, Tiago Nacarato invited João Gil to a concert that was as surprising as it was entertaining.
We have no doubt that, after the success of this edition, the Açoteia – Faro Rooftop Festival will return in 2024 with even more novelties to give us a taste of the city of Faro.
