Sustainability, social responsibility, and a commitment to the community remain at the heart of 3HB Hotels. It is with great pride that we announce that five 3HB Hotels properties have been awarded the HEART Seals. The 2025 “We Share”and “We Care” Sels, awarded by the Portuguese Hotel Association under the HEART – Hospitality, Environment and Responsible Tourism Programme.
While 3HB Clube Humbria, 3HB Falésia Beach and 3HB Guaraná received both the “We Share” and “We Care”seals, 3HB Faro and 3HB Golden Beach were awarded the “We Share” seal.
These distinctions recognise 3HB Hotels’ ongoing commitment to sustainable practices, environmental responsibility, and creating a positive social impact within the hospitality industry.
The HEART Programme is the corporate platform for Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability of the Portuguese Hotel Association. Its main objective is to promote a more sustainable and responsible hospitality sector by encouraging hotels and partners to adopt responsible practices across social, environmental, and economic dimensions.
More than a seal, HEART represents a collaborative movement that brings together the Portuguese hospitality sector around causes with a real impact on society and the environment.
Social responsibility is one of the core pillars of the HEART Programme. The initiative originated in 2013 with the “A mattress, a heart” project, created to promote the donation of mattresses and other hotel assets to social solidarity institutions.
Over more than a decade, the impact of this programme has exceeded all expectations:
The programme also promotes inclusive recruitment within the hospitality sector, building links between member hotels and national social support institutions.
Environmental sustainability is also a priority of the HEART Programme, through the implementation of best practices for the collection, treatment, and transformation of hotel waste.
This circular and collaborative economy model strengthens the hospitality sector’s connection to the community and the environment, promoting a more conscious management of resources.
Among the programme’s key environmental initiatives are:
Used cooking oils are collected and processed by specialised and certified companies, and are currently repurposed for the production of cleaning detergents.
The programme promotes the collection of electrical and electronic equipment, used batteries, and accumulators. The collected items are converted into financial support for Private Social Solidarity Institutions.
Dedicated to the collection and recycling of cork stoppers, this project contributes to reforestation with native Portuguese species. For every tonne of cork stoppers collected, 4,000 trees are made available for planting.
The initiative includes the collection and secure destruction of confidential documents and other paper waste, while also promoting responsible recycling practices.
The collection and processing of end-of-life textile materials also play an important role in the programme, through protocols established with companies specialised in the collection and treatment of this type of waste.
