3 Tips for your Easter Holidays in the Algarve

1 - In São Brás de Alportel discover the Festa das Tochas Floridas. Flowers of dozens of different tones grace the village and quilts in multiple colours are hang on the windows and balconies. With the streets covered with flowers begins the Resurrection Procession on Easter Sunday.
2 - In Loulé Mãe Soberana festivities date back to the 16th century in honour of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our Lady of Mercy) and attracts thousands of faithful and curious. It is on Easter Sunday that the descent of the image of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our Lady of Mercy) from its hermitage to the Igreja de São Francisco (San Francisco Church) takes place. In the following two weeks, various religious events take place but the highlight is the procession up to the sanctuary, known as Festa Grande.
3 - If you want to escape the religious bustle, visit Olhão city and try the so famous Folar de Olhão, a traditional Easter cake in which among other ingredients it consists of layers of cinnamon, sugar and butter.
